A grand antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19th Century made up of interlocking fetter links and smaller cable links all crafted in 9ct gold with a lovely patina and muted, yellow gold tone.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort in the 19th Century and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It’s a wonderful design and complete with the classic T-bar and claw clasps so that it can be worn as a traditional watch chain or as a necklace.
